Esta adaptación realizada por François Girard de la exitosa novela Seda, que tanto cautivó al público por sus imagenes bucólicas y su descripción y narrativa sencilla, plantea la vida de un comerciante que realiza la ruta de la seda: los largos viajes, sus parajes exóticos, la guerra, el amor y la distancia en un mundo distinto al actual, la moral de la época, las convicciones y las dificultades a las que el protagonista hace frente, de una forma mundana y sencilla. De la película se dice que es muy lenta. Teniendo en cuenta que el libro trata de la vida de un personaje, no es de extrañar que tenga visos de ser un film abstracto, adornado con toques de pasión.

No es una película que ver para pasar un rato; hay que saber que vamos a apostar por un cine sentimental ambientado en otra época.

La novela fue todo un exito. Suponemos que la película será un buen recordatorio para los fans de este escritor.
